  • Landing Challenges: Group Fly

Come fly with us or watch the attempts! Group Fly in Howard’s favorite water aircraft: The ICON A5. In this group fly event, Howard first shows us how to land and takeoff using the ICON A5 on water. But the rest of the evening is all flying together as a group and discovering the beauty of our land. We are on the WEST USA server (different than Howard’s default). We are starting at Victoria International Airport on Vancouver Island in British Columbia, Canada. We will be weaving in and around the mountains and lakes all the way up to Courteney, one of Howard’s favorite land/water airports near the Canadian Forces Base Comox. We could have easily just followed the coastline to get there, but weaving in and around mountains is more fun. Join us at 7pm Eastern, 12:00am Zulu at http://twitch.tv/ForderLearnToFly When you get there, type !fly in chat to confirm your server and !flightplan to download the flightplan and load it into your airplane. You can optionally load your flight plan into LittleNavMap to follow along. See you there. Subscribers to the channel get discounts and free flying courses plus free live lessons in a duo cockpit with Forder. Ask in chat for details. Join the Forder Flying Club today!

  • Discovery Group Flight

Although we won’t see this scene from the air in the simulator, this has a rich history of USA influence Come join us Sunday evening, January 17th, at 7pm Eastern for a flight from Havana to Varadero, the white beaches for holiday sun at this time of year. https://twitch.tv/ForderLearnToFly This won’t be a history lesson, nor a geography lesson. Just a casual group fly with a flight plan. Chat room discussion is encouraged and if you have some knowledge of this winter getaway, please speak up in chat with your information. We all learn something new. Although Howard and his wife have spent winter holidays in Cuba, it was mostly in Varadero where the majority of tourists hang out… the all inclusive resorts. When you get to the stream, type !flightplan to pick up the flight plan and load it into Flight Simulator, or type !fly to get the server and starting airport. See you there.

  • Guest Pilot Matt – San Francisco

Join us Sunday evening in multiplayer as we learn how a real student pilot handles the busy San Fransisco area traffic. Matt is a student pilot IRL and is taking lessons out of KSQL, San Carlos airport. It’s a busy airspace with many airports all around and restrictions on overlapping control zones. Matt will take us to his practice area IRL, including circuits at Half Moon Bay. Then on to the bigger attractions that San Fran is known for, like the Bay bridge and the Golden Gate bridge and all the cities surrounding them. No Group Fly would be complete in this area if we didn’t low-fly Alcatraz. But the real take-away is how to fly in and around this busy airspace. Come fly with us! https://www.twitch.tv/forderlearntofly

  • The Famous FISK Approach to OSHKOSH

Event using Microsoft’s Flight Simulator (not FSX, Xplane, or Prepar3d) Come join in the fun as we multiplayer group fly through the Ripon/FISK approach to OSHKOSH for precision flying and “landing on the dot”. A right of passage for aviators. Do you think you can “land on the Dot?” Calling all MSFS pilots to get an insight on how this works for aviators into the worlds busiest airport for 10 days of the year. Preparation session and distribution of the thick NOTAM on Thursday, January 7th at 5pm Eastern. After the prep session, you can practice fly as a group to both the 36 FISK avenue approach and the runway 27 railroad track approach. The coloured dots are on the runway… see if you can do it before the big event. Then on Saturday, January 9th at Noon Eastern time, the even starts. All arriving aircraft will have to start before the FISK decision point if you want to fly in. You will need to register for the event as we can’t have anyone just dropping into the field and wrecking our separation approaches. Any skill level is welcome and all should obtain the NOTAM and follow the procedures for arrival. (registration details revealed Thursday evening) Can you land on the dot? Each dot is 45 gallons of paint. Special FAA sequencing rules are applied. Simultaneous landing airplanes are in order to fit the 10,000 participating aircraft over 10 days!
