  • Photo Album Last Weekend

It’s here! I have published our photo album from last weekend. We started in Toronto, Canada… flew across Lake Ontario to Niagara Falls at night, then jumped over to Rio to fly around Christ the Redeemer statue. https://myalbum.com/album/BFHiV32EiCru Screen-snaps from our group flying session on Saturday and Sunday, October 24th, 25th, 2020 We finally took up the challenge at Lukla airport in my new Canadian livery for the TBM 930. This final destination was really the final destination for some as we witnessed a lot of crashes trying to put it down on this runway. Exciting times (in the sim that is). Thank you to all who flew alongside. We had a blast.

  • Jet Fighter Addition (or Addiction)

Howard adds the first fighter jet available for MSFS and gets us flying and landing with the basics. Thursday, October 29th, at 4pm Eastern Time, 8pm Zulu. https://twitch.tv/ForderLearnToFly Howard installs and introduces us to the only fighter jet fully functional in MSFS, the Aermacchi MB-339. During this twitch livestream, we take off from Toronto City Center airport (Billy Bishop) and get very high, very fast. The harder part will be getting back on the ground safely. Howard will walk us through an orientation of where everything is, how to get flying and how to land the beast. He will also introduce us to a stick/throttle recommendation to get the most out of jet fighter flying. There is no room for a yoke where we are going! The Aermacchi MB-339 is a military jet trainer and light attack aircraft designed and manufactured by Italian aviation company Aermacchi.

  • Group Fly Sunday October 18th

Come join Howard for another fun group fly in. You can just watch and interact in chat or join in the skies in multiplayer mode. See details below.. we are flying a floatplane to land on lakes. If you prefer planes with wheels, you can find some firm ground nearby to land. This session is based on a suggestion by a twitch follower who asked us to try this lake just like the YouTube video of a real Icon A5 doing the same. Please see the short video ahead of time and then join in this stream Sunday evening: Thanks to flox_trot, a participant in last Sunday’s stream. This is the chat-room choice first trip Sunday evening. An open public event for you to fly-alongside or watch. When: Sunday, October 18th, 2020 1100zulu, 7pm Eastern Time 2 hours Where: ForderLearnToFly twitch channel: https://twitch.tv/ForderLearnToFly Flight plan: https:https://bit.ly/3j9F1Yi but that only gets you to the nearest airport.. keep going in that direction to the lake and ensure you are 3000 feet or above… Flight Details: At 7:05pm (after we gather) we will be departing KPAE, Paine Field in Washington State.. just north of Seattle/Tacoma airport. We will be flying the Icon A5 floatplane and landing on lakes along the way, much as we did in our Vancouver fly event. We will fly straight east following the Snohomish river to this secluded mountain lake where there is only one way in… and one way out. Two Landing challenges: We are going to land in Lake Isabel, just like the Youtube video of the real plane. Additionally, Howard likes to challenge fellow flyers to two almost impossible landing spots to take a break, use the washroom, refresh your drinks and take off again. Short field landings are in order as we plunk down in areas that would make your hair stand on end…. Planning: Starting airport is KPAE. Please pick the ramp area at the south end and turn on your fuel switch in the roof of the plane to start your engines. If you start late, chat the group and we will determine where we are from that airport so you can slew to us (Y key) Please load your aircraft 15 minutes prior to take off and ensure you see others doing runup nearby getting ready. (East USA server) We will announce when we are ready for takeoff, as we will all attempt a parallel northbound takeoff, heading east toward the mountains. Tell all your friends. Anyone can tune in and watch and comment in the chat window. Ask Howard lots of questions. Other pilots on the stream can help too. There is no ending airport!, This is a “Chat-Room” choice fly in event and this first destination was suggested by “flox_trot” in last week’s session. You can suggest where we go after the two landing challenges. Could be anywhere in the world, even over your own house! Weather: We will use preset weather so it’s clear skies, for the specific reason of clarity when looking at scenery. We will be stopping and using a drone camera for closeups. Live players, all traffic and preset weather to clear skies. Try to pick noon for best light on attractions. Multiplayer Setting: To see and be seen by everyone: (All Players) The fun part! –Server: East USA (if everyone disappears, change your server, change it back) Xbox Userid top right. It’s about the closest server to the streamer, not closest to the destination. (low latency) –Multiplayer: All –Live traffic: As desired –Weather: Clear skies and daylight (can change in session) –Communication: chat window and lead airplane C-FLTF (Howard’s Forder Learn To Fly) Howard the pilot, will be the only voice leading us through this flight in an Icon A5 amphib plane. Chat to find out where we are and use the Y key to slew back to us. Save your flight often along the way in case you have trouble and want to resume where you left off. Let’s Fy! As with all informal, public fly-ins, there are no checklists, no strict flying rules and its an informal visual flight (VFR). Everyone is welcome, no matter what your experience level. • Adding Scenery to MSFS

Howard has been saying for a month now to “wait for it” as a ton of add-on scenery, liveries, aircraft and airports are on their way to the new Microsoft Flight Simulator market. Thursday’s Cockpit Chatter session at 4pm will show how to find all this new stuff and how to figure out where your “Community” folder is. There is a lot of confusion around this location and how to find it. Howard puts his technical hat on and shows you how easy it is to find out where on your specific system. Then you get to follow along as Howard installs the Space Coast scenery with the Falcon Heavy, as you saw on last Sunday’s group fly. Add a variety of Cessna 172 colours and a few other great scenery add-ons, all for free. An update to the space coast scenery, Niagara Falls and other great free add-ons. • TW Goes Solo

TW earns his solo certificate with flying colors! Please join me in congratulating TW for earning his solo wings. This milestone in flying studies and practice allows a student pilot to take planes out alone to continue to practice towards their pilot license. Although in Flight Simulator we are always alone it seems, TW met all the criteria of a solo flight including the circuit and emergency landings. Comment below to congratulate your fellow flyer with this accomplishment. -Howard Here is the congratulatory video on YouTube if you haven’t seen it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=16oF-RB0GaQ

  • Tuesday Flying Lesson and Group Fly

Tuesday’s livestream is “Approaching Airports” and starts at 4pm Eastern, 8pm Zulu. http://twitch.tv/ForderLearnToFly Come along to learn or review how to approach your destination airport to land. We will learn the same procedures real pilots use. I hope you will join me in reviewing procedures to get into the airport’s control zone and landing properly. This will cover both controlled airports that have a person on a radio and uncontrolled airports where you have to call every position to the common frequency. This is a follow-on to last week’s lesson on Pitch vs Power to have a relaxed, controlled landing. The lesson and the demonstrations are first, then we can group fly to practice our newfound skills or just casual fly to an area of your choice. If you wish to wait at the apron during demonstrations to observe, we will be flying into Oshawa (CYOO) and Markham (CNU8). The advantage of livestream lessons is that you get to ask questions and make comments in the chat session. https://twitch.tv/ForderLearnToFly Subscribers: to the twitch channel have private fly-ins with more realistic flying (real checklists and procedures).
